For most of my working life I have been a nurse. I worked in many different hospitals around the UK because my husband was in the navy, and we moved often. Fortunately, I found that there was always a demand for nurses of my experience wherever I went. It was also a job where I was able to work part-time, which suited me, as my three children grew up.
After many years of nursing, I decided to join OxleyCare as their ‘roving’ trainer.
I have been working now for OxleyCare for four years and my role is to help teach the live-in carers ‘moving and handling’ techniques. This is because many of OxleyCare’s clients may need help with managing their mobility. Our carers are fully trained, but need to have regular refresher training on how best to support our clients to safely move around their homes for as long as possible.
I really enjoy working for OxleyCare. It not only lets me use much of my nursing experience, but it also gives a me an opportunity to travel around the south of England meeting carers and clients. I really like the variety of people and situations I encounter. I must admit I am a social animal and like meeting and talking to people of all nationalities and walks of life.
It helps keep life interesting.
