Caring for you
Dementia care
Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe various conditions affecting the brain such as Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia the most common symptom of which is memory loss. At Oxleycare we recognise that dementia can affect elderly people in a wide variety of ways which is why having an experienced and compassionate live-in carer can often really help with life at home.
Some of the most common symptoms associated with dementia are memory loss, abrupt mood swings, limited memory span, periods of confusion, difficulty with simple tasks and making decisions, hallucinations and losing the ability to place things and people in time and/or space.
While dementia is ultimately incurable, it is known that it is hugely beneficial for any sufferer of dementia to be able to stay in their own home, where the familiar surroundings can offer comfort and security. An OxleyCare live-carer can provide care and companionship in your own house. They can help with as few or many household tasks as you wish whilst still encouraging you or your loved one to participate as much as possible.
The aim of providing care for a person with dementia symptoms is to help keep them calm, secure and socially active by encouraging visits from family and friends. In this way it is possible to keep their life as enriched and fulfilled as possible.
Familiar surroundings
Hugely beneficial
Our live-in carers are specially trained to help support clients with vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. They can help you or your loved one to continue living at home by helping with the regular household tasks such as shopping, light cleaning, personal care and transportation. In addition, our live-in carers are experienced, capable and compassionate which means that they can also offer the specific care and activities needed to help dementia sufferers manage their condition. This can include reminding them to take medicines, bathing, exercising, making sure they are eating and drinking sufficiently, and generally helping them to retain their independence and dignity.
Dementia is a progressive condition, which affects everybody differently. Each person’s experience of dementia will vary from the next, but the condition generally follows three main stages, with different levels of care needed along the way. For this reason, having a trusted live-in carer who can deliver continuous targeted support through all stages of the disease is invaluable.
