OxleyCare has just turned 21 and we are marking this occasion by fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society. It is a company wide effort and we have pledged to do 21 minutes of exercise every day, for 21 days, starting on the 21st of May. The 21st of May is significant (not only because it has the number 21 in it!) but because it falls during Dementia Action Week.
Team members can do any activity they want so you can expect updates from: gym goers, walkers, runners, swimmers, cyclists, peloton work outs, online Pilates, Wii fit users and more besides!
We know that dementia affects many elderly people to varying degrees. Alzheimer’s Research UK estimate there are currently 50 million people worldwide with dementia and this is projected to rise by 204% to 152 million by 2050. It is not a natural part of ageing and although memory problems are a symptom, finding planning hard, struggling to keep up in a conversation, spatial awareness difficulties and mood changes are also common. All our carers undertake dementia training to allow them to understand the diseases associated with it.
